FRIDAY COFFEE – SAYING THANKS BEFORE NSS

Ya’ll. I’m an excited, over caffeinated, hot mess today. I’m trying to get everything to the printer today for what I need for NSS and it’s got me computing like a marathoner. Fingers are tired. However, as I’m sitting here doing all this, I can’t help but be extremely grateful and thankful for the people who have helped me get here. First off, Whitney English Kolb and Natalie Chang: You are my heroes. I want to help and mentor people like you guys do someday (hopefully soon!). Without you, I would never have dreamed this big. I also want to send a shout out to the other peeps I’m exhibiting with. Between frantic emails and facebook posts, we have been each other’s support and it’s amazing. I also want to send a big thank you to my printer. Treats will be delivered next week because seriously.

I also want to thank my family. My husband has pretty much been living without me the past few weeks as I get ready and my mom has been helping me assemble things. I could not do it without you, especially in my sick, pregnant state.

Ok, enjoy your coffee!

FRIDAY COFFEE-FINDING THE GOOD

IMG_3069

I rarely speak about my past and my faith and maybe it’s time. I woke up to drink coffee and read CNN and my heart broke. More violence and more death happening in our world. Some may know that my father was murdered in an armed robbery when I was 8 days old. Whenever something awful happens, all those feelings that I’ve spent a lifetime dealing with bubble to the surface. It’s really hard being the victim of a violent crime. You look at the world differently and you don’t trust as much as maybe you should. BUT if there is something I’ve learned, it’s that you HAVE to look for the good in the world. I truly believe we are in the middle of a constant battle between good and evil and so many times in my life I’ve felt like evil was winning. But I choose to rise above all of this and pray that someday things will be different. I choose to focus on the people who ran to help during the bombing and the people who are fighting everyday for the good of our world. We can be the change. We can be the good. Remember, there are so many victims of violent crimes, not just the people who die. It’s the people left behind who have to deal with the event and the people related to the person or persons who caused the violence. I pray for them all the time as I pray for my father’s killer’s family often. At the end of all this, I just really encourage everyone to not focus on hating these men but praying for them. It’s a hard thing but we have to be the good in the world to see change.
